Today Don Imus made his attempt to return to radio and TV broadcasting, according to 4 close sources to him, mainly his lawyer who said that CBS has a duty to him and if they break it they are breaking their contract with him. Imus’s lawyer, Martin Garbus, says that if CBS continues on with their lawsuit and refuses to bring back Imus then they are in violation their contract with him and are liable to pay him over 40 million dollars for the breach of contract. Even though I think that Imus’s lawyer is talking out of his ass I don’t think that Imus should have been fired in the first place, because now many other shock jocks, even on XM radio, are being suspended and fired for crude comments. What CBS did is going to set a bad precedent within the radio world and is going to limit the freedom of speech that is out there, all because some CBS was afraid of losing their advertisement money. On the other hand Imus should just quit while he is behind, which he should have learned from before, but apparently he didn’t and this may cost him any future jobs with any/every radio station. By filing a breach of contract law suit against CBS Imus is still trying to say that what he did was right and his comments we not harmful…he need to recognize that they were and that he may never work on radio or TV again.
